Captain Richard Philips of the US Maersk Alabama container ship was freed unharmed by the US military, which also killed three hostages and took one captive. The ship that was carrying humanitarian aid to Somalians was attacked on Wednesday. The American crew that fought the pirates and gained control of the ship were jubilant to hear that their captain was freed and that too on an Easter Sunday. These hijacks have hugely disrupted international trade and hiked the cost of shipping insurance. The pirates who were not known to harm their hostages might, according to experts start doing that after this rescue.
