The University of New South Wales did a study to determine whether people’s ability to look into small details and remember them depended on their moods. When shopper’s were asked to recollect the 10 objects placed on a counter they had seen earlier at the time of exit it was found that they were able to recollect three times as many articles on cold, windy and rainy days than when it was bright and sunny. It was proved that the negative moods induced due to inclement weather helped remember more articles as the surroundings came into focus making them capable of higher discernment.
